Walley

Walley is the town where the short story is set. The town is located along the Peregrine River. The Walley community is small, and thus insular. All of the townspeople know one another, and gossip about each other. At the start of the story, these dynamics are presented via the consciousness of Cece, Jimmy, and Bud. Though the boys each of different home lives, they behave similarly while out in the community together. They do not feel free to be themselves while in town, as everyone is always watching and assessing their behavior. Once they leave town, and spend time by the river, they feel more free.
