Orm

Orm is the protagonist of the novel. The Long Ships revolves around the story of his life and luck. Nicknamed “Red-Orm” for his fiery hair and temper, Orm is a fierce and noble leader (50).

To begin, Orm was born to Toste and Asa. Coddled by Asa, Orm was a surly and well-fed boy. As an adult, Orm often boasts of his noble blood. By the time he returns home to Skania, his family possesses little wealth and is forced to move to his mother’s estate. Orm’s thriftiness coupled with his strength helps sustain his household and service.
