Summary

The second scene, “Noon,” begins on a road in the village. Sidi enters reading the magazine and Lakunle follows her, carrying a pile of wood. They are approached by an old woman named Sadiku, who is one of Baroka’s many wives. Sadiku tells Sidi that Baroka wishes for her to become his newest wife. Sidi laughs at this proposal and claims that, since the publication of her photos in the magazine, she is now too good for an old man like Baroka. Sadiku is shocked by Sidi turning down the opportunity to become Baroka’s wife and questions whether Sidi has gone mad.

Sadiku tells Sidi that even if she does not wish to marry Baroka she is still invited to dine at his house that night. Sidi responds that she knows such dinners are merely Baroka’s way of luring women into...
