Cassandra “Cassie” Maddox, aka Alexandra “Lexie” Madison

Cassandra “Cassie” Maddox, aka Alexandra “Lexie” Madison, is the main character and narrator of this novel. Cassie feels as if she is in some way responsible for what happened for Lexie because she and Frank created the identity of Lexie when Cassie was working as an undercover officer. Cassie has lived through a particularly difficult period of her life when she encounters Lexie again. She has had to leave the Murder Squad, a job she loved, and she lost the friendship of Rob, her partner, a person she believed that she would never lose. The reader learns later on in the novel that Cassie got pregnant by Rob after sleeping with him only one time. She chose to abort the baby without telling anyone she was even pregnant.
