Summary

In Chapter 6, “Let Us Sit Upon the Ground,” after sex, Noah and Bert smoked in bed together. Bert owned the house where Noah rented. Noah asked if Bert had told his father he was selling the place. Bert was unconcerned, as his father was dying and had not been good to him. Noah said he had no judgment. Angry and hurt, Bert left.

Noah told his friend Daw about what had happened with Bert. Like all of Noah’s friends, Daw did not understand why Noah was with Bert. Although Noah was not in love, the tension between him and Bert always dissipated when they had sex (203). He and Daw walked to the studio for Ólafur’s class, meeting up with Fatima. Noah and Fatima were friends, but Daw and Fatima “did not get along” (204). Noah mused on friendship, performance, and loyalty.
