Winston Churchill

Winston Churchill is the main character of the book. He leads England through World War II and the battle against the Nazis, brought in as a compromise choice by King George. Churchill has always been a well traveled brave adventurer. He travels to Cuba, India, on the Nile, South Africa, the Sudan, Iran and other places. He fights at the Battle of Omdurman in 1898. He is elected to Parliament at the age of twenty-five. In many ways, Churchill is a relic of an earlier time. He would have sent his troops into battle wearing red coats if he could have. He does not fancy progress and is not happy about flying but is interested in rockets in the 1930s. He makes it clear he fancies the past.
