Summary

In Chapter 10, Eustace and Arthur traveled to Bordeaux. At an inn, they met Fulk’s stepmother and his sister Agnes. Eustace and Agnes had loved each other since childhood, and the Clarenham ladies were upset about Eleanor’s death and Fulk’s behavior. Later in the journey, news came that war had broken out again, so it would be unsafe to go further without more company. They had to wait for two months before joining some passing soldiers. By the time they reached the Prince’s court, Fulk had got there and established himself. He had feigned concern for Arthur’s safety, claiming Eustace had kidnapped him for his own ends, and run away with stolen money (the bag of gold) after causing the brawl at Eleanor’s funeral.
