Chapter Nine Summary

Chapter Nine opens at the Welfare Facility. Joe is checking a dead guard. His throat had been cut. Barbara Eisley shows up and together they see the sheet and know that Jane is gone. Eisley doesn't believe that Joe doesn't know where Eve is. It rather bothers Joe when Eisley calls Eve his friend. This is the first time they have been involved in a case together, and Joe has been free. He wants more than friend. Barbara threatens to charge Eve with kidnapping if she has Jane.

In the meantime, Eve and Mark had taken the kids to her mother's apartment. First Eve has to convince Jane that Sandra will take care of Mike and that there is already protection there for him. Next she has to convince her mother. She doesn't want to mess up her mother's relationship with...
