Yancey opens this chapter by comparing the reaction of sinners to the person of Jesus, with the reaction of sinners to the modern day church. Sinners flock to Jesus and feel comfortable around Him while those who are thought well of by the world's standards shun and scorn Him. The church Jesus starts has become quite a different place.
