Summary

Lila Mae meets with Chuck at a restaurant. He tells her that the office is hectic and that there are rumors that the Intuitionists planned Chancre’s fall at the demonstration. He encourages Lila Mae to come into the office and speak with Arbergrast from Internal Affairs so that he can clear her of wrongdoing. He also says that rumors about Fulton’s black box are spreading around the office. Lila Mae refuses and returns to her hotel room at the Friendly League Residence, which is in a tenement part of the city. She reads Theoretical Elevators Volume Two in a different way now that she knows Fulton was colored.
