Summary

Bat has several of his friends over. Alfonso, Fitzwilliams, de Nobriga, Syl, and Gallows gather in the basement. They all work odd jobs to barely make ends meet and share similar backgrounds. They begin smoking weed together before Jean and Matilda come downstairs and scold them for it. It seemed like “the two of them was going to start a big quarrel but lucky thing same time Bat and Harry come back. Bat open up Harry bottle of rum and pass around some drinks” (54). Bat tells the others about his plan for them to all pool enough money to buy a house together so they escape their landlords.
