Summary

In “The Confessions,” Dave and Little Angel meet for the first time. It is revealed that Dave is Big Angel’s priest. They are trying to decide when to do last rites, which involves guessing when exactly Big Angel will die. Big Angel gifts Little Angel their father’s police overcoat. Little Angel and Big Angel pick a fight over who had been the worse brother. Big Angel reveals to Little Angel that his mother was already pregnant before Don Antonio decided to marry her. They begin to wrestle. Little Angel tells Big Angel that he left San Diego in hopes of making something of himself. He adds: “I always thought I didn’t really have the father I wanted. And all this time it was you” (266).
