Summary

In Chapter Two, Hamed and Onsi returned to the office of Superintendent Bashir. Hamed informed the superintendent that the haunting was not caused by a ghost, but a djinn. Bashir was skeptical because most djinn he knew lived and worked amongst the Egyptians and did not look like the creature in the tram. Forty years ago, a wandering Soudanese genius named al-Jahiz had opened a hole through the Kaf with a mix of alchemy and machines. The hole had created a doorway to an alternate dimension from which djinn and magic had poured forth. This made Egypt one of the biggest powers in the world and caused the British to back out of the country and leave the Egyptians their independence.
