Summary

In Chapter 23, Clare was embarrassed to tell the police officers that the last time she had seen Grace for an extended period of time the day of the community party was at about 2 p.m. for Grace’s birthday party. She had seen her again at 7 p.m. at the barbecue. After that, Clare had not seen Grace again until Pip told her that Grace had been hurt.

In Chapter 24, Clare told Pip that the doctors thought someone had given Grace an overdose of drugs. When Pip learned that a nurse was coming to make sure that Grace had not been sexually assaulted, Pip finally told her that Grace’s shirt had been up and her shorts down when she found her.
