Point of View

This novel is told from the first-person point of view of Lynnette Tarkington, the main character of the novel. Consider: “I wake up, get out of bed, say good morning to my plant, unwrap a protein bar, and drink a liter of bottled water. I’m awake for five full minutes before remembering I might die today” (3). Lynnette refers to herself as “I” and speaks of her own actions as she starts her day. Lynnette is a biased narrator because she knows only what she experiences directly. She is unable to give the reader any insight into other characters’ thoughts or emotions. She knows what others are thinking only through their conversation.
