Summary

Valerian notes that the mountains on the planet have features that resemble faces. Elmir says it is believed that they are Slohm's former inhabitants, and that they are being absorbed into the planet. The tears remind Valerian of something, but it is only later that he realizes this is what he'd seen the Enlighteneds drinking in the palace.

The attackers split into groups. Valerian warns they have to be fast and efficient, or the guards will kill the prisoners. Valerian waits until everyone is in place, then kills the first guard. The attackers hit with their force, then the prisoners take advantage of the situation, joining the attack. Soon, Valerian's forces are victorious and all the guards are dead.
