The Caste System

The caste system in the narrative symbolizes the inequalities that exist within the society in which the narrative takes place. It also symbolizes how people can believe that they are lesser than others and have a hard time living up to their true potential due to a position in life that classifies them. This is one of the issues America has to deal with as she was a five and has problems seeing herself in her new caste, that of a three. She has an even harder time thinking that she can be a good princess.

The Khakis

May's khakis symbolize her real life, It is in sharp contrast to what she experiences during the Halloween party at the castle. Going back to khakis means going back to her old life after experiencing the life of a princess.
