Summary

Chapter 42 begins with two “strangers” carrying Libby out of the house; the strangers being Mei and Matthew (229). Sara has been calling an ambulance, but none came. As they walk, Sara gets woozy. She has completely forgotten to eat or drink anything. Matthew is frustrated that Sara keeps slowing them down, since “her sister is the one who needs help” (231). Mei is kinder, and holds Sara’s hand when she does not realize she needs it. They reach the college campus with Libby in Matthew’s arms, and the area around the medical tents are swarmed with other people carrying limp bodies, or else bodies left with notes attached. Sara cannot perceive any method to the madness, and the doctors do not seem to either. They attach a name card to Libby and Mei and Matthew go off to help. Mei comes to check...
