Summary

The first section focuses on Beauty. Beauty walks to the door to start her search for Richard again and sees him standing outside. She leads him to the house where she has been staying. Because her room is in the same spot as Richard’s in the original house, she hopes he will be comfortable there. As Beauty puts a dry shirt on him, he tells her that he wants to go home. She tells him they are at home.

Patricia’s point of view is the focus of the next section. She remembers how polite Richard was when she first met him. He had come to the family because her father had hired him to manage the farm.
