Book 2, Inquisition: Chapters 16-20 Summary

In Chapter 16, as the expedition continues their quest down the river, they have gained a shadow. This man, known as Isaac to Ike, was once an English pilot, but is now more hadal than human. This man stole Kora from the cave near the Himalayas and raised a daughter with her until her death. Now this man is making plans to attack the members of the expedition.

One day, one of the female scientists is approached by Isaac, unaware he is a hadal. She believes him to be one of the soldiers. This woman, Molly, becomes ill sometime later. Molly is quarantined from the others, but Ali insists on staying with her. Eventually Molly tells Ali that she believes this illness has been caused by her sexual relations with a hadal.
