Summary

In Chapter 19, Lily began researching autism. Charles, meanwhile, lived in constant shame. Because of Will, he finally understood that he had failed Lily when he did not realize how much her parents’ deaths had defined her. He also felt he failed Bip because he did not have the energy to play the way Bip wanted him to. Charles realized that Lily was the perfect mother for Will when she asked Charles a question about her research. She threw a pencil at Charles and told him that she could not stand for both him and Will to be silent. Charles recognized that Lily did not want to change Will, she just wanted him to be happy.
