Summary

Chapter 17 is written from Holly’s third-person perspective. As Holly and Charlie walk towards the house, Holly calls Vera to tell her that Josh tutors Lorna’s art class. Both Charlie and Vera praise her work. Holly is especially happy to receive praise from Vera, but wishes that it did not mean so much to her. When they arrive at Lorna’s house, the crime scene investigator says that they have not found fingerprint matches on the database. They also have DNA, but there is a backlog, so it will take time to get the results. He explains why it does not have priority. However, it can be fast-tracked if Vera’s department pays for it. Holly and Charlie learn that there was a key in Lorna’s jeans pocket. The crime-scene investigators obtained their key from Connie.
