Summary

Chapter 1

On Wednesday, it rains in London and keeps on raining until Friday. Robin wraps a paratrooper doll for Jack, Strike’s nephew. As they part ways for the weekend, Wardle calls Strike, confirming his information was valuable. Wardle will be sending over the police file for Lula. In the background, Strike can hear someone say, “Fearney’s fucking face.” Three hours later, the case file arrives. Strike finishes up his quick dinner of fish and chips and goes through the file.

The file contains everything from photos to the autopsy to CCTV footage on DVD. The autopsy reveals that Lula had been killed on impact, dying from a broken neck and internal bleeding. She also had bruising on her upper arms and had fallen wearing one shoe. She was also in a different outfit than the outfit she had worn home. He learns...
