Goldie Easton

Goldie is the main character of the novel and the narrator. She is eight years old when her parents first take her to Camp Alpine Lake. Because they work at the camp, she is allowed to attend for free. Because she comes from a poor family and a poor town, she is enamored with camp and all the wealthy campers. She becomes best friends with Ava and Imogen and spends all school year just waiting to see them again. She is close friends with Cal when she is a young child, but he stops being friends with her when he gets popular. She describes herself as having no interests, goals, or personality outside of camp. It is the only place she feels like she belongs, and belonging is very important to her because she does not know who she is as an individual.
