Summary

After pulling the trigger on what ought to have been a chamber with a bullet in it, The Sympathizer finds himself alive. The Mona Lisa, Ugly, Uglier, and Beatles are all laughing at him. They demand again to know who Le Chinois is, and The Sympathizer says “we are all Le Chinois” (166). He begins insisting that all Asian people are one. At this point, Le Cao Boi, The Ronin, and Bon burst in and kill Beatles, and Ugly and Uglier. The Sympathizer smokes a cigarette while the men are gunned down and reflects wryly that all people are the same on the inside. The Mona Lisa escapes.
