Summary

Mary, Cherry, and Jube were hidden away when Britt arrived at the Kiowa encampment in Chapter 17. Millie had been transported a week earlier so Gonkon could keep her. She translated the exchange for the three captives. Britt offered everything he had to trade, including Tissoyo’s horses, for his family. Only Mary and Cherry were escorted to the meeting and offered. Back at the cave, Gonkon told Jube that Britt was being forced into trading his last two horses for him. When Jube approached, he claimed that he wanted to stay with the Kiowa, refusing to return home despite Britt’s insistence. Britt, Mary, Cherry, and their two horses set out toward the Canadian River. The next night, Aperian Crow allowed Jube to join the other boys and use his horse. Jube slowly fell behind the group in the dark of night, turned around...
