Summary
The narrator and Trenchcoat settle back into their life in Brooklyn. The narrator fixes her printer and Trenchcoat resumes his laundry duties. Sometimes she considers going back to Sasha but prefers Trenchcoat.
At school, Aisha tells the narrator about the Dandies, a group some of the boys organized. The narrator is shocked that Sal and Leonard started the group. Soon, more boys join the group and they start organizing protests and initiatives.
Meanwhile, the narrator tends to her many plants at home. She worries some of them are dying because she sees them as her children the way some people see “their pets like . . . children” (146).
The narrator helps the Dandies host a bake sale. They want the money to go to the New York Refugee Action Committee. The narrator secretly keeps it instead and gives the boys two fish as a reward. After...
