The Woman's Apartment

The woman lives alone in an apartment in her nameless city. Her apartment is situated above the landlady's. As she waits for the storm, she spends nearly every hour of every day sitting in her room, reading the Bible, listening to the news, and looking out the window. The only times she leaves the apartment during the story are to visit the man, to attend various church services, and finally to ride the train away from home.

After the man calls the woman convinced he is dying, she pays him a visit. His home is situated in a nearby neighborhood. When the woman arrives, she notes the strange light in his room, and the way the windows shake from the coming storm's winds.
