Summary

In Chapter 3, on the train back to Washington, Ellie kept thinking about everything that had happened. When her “phone buzzed,” she hoped “it was Lucas,” but it was only one of her roommates (46). Ellie lived in 1938 House with Mallory, Adrian, Nick, and Katherine. Staying in her “father’s home without him” suddenly seemed more appealing than returning home (47). Because she had not heard from Lucas and was still upset about Jim, Ellie opened her dating app and arranged a date for that evening. Meanwhile, she numbly watched a man harass a woman and thought about Linda T. She realized she must be the woman Jim had met in his “adult adventure program” (50).
