Summary

Part III begins with Chapter 14, in which Viola is talking to David, Lillian, and Lillian's friend Elaine about a recent trip to the bowling alley with Kim and Baby Vi. The twins had repeatedly stated they did not want to be there, and Kim in particular was antagonistic. They felt as though everyone was staring at them, and this feeling proved justified when they were approached by a couple who excoriated them for Althea and Proctor's crimes. Viola wonders if the twins do need a fresh start somewhere else. She recalls further complicated memories of both her parents, and looks at the family pictures in Lillian's house, one from Easter when the siblings were children, and one from her and Eva's wedding day.
