Summary

In Part Five, "Rose," Chapter 57, the next morning, Vicky and Francie went for brunch. Vicky was excited at Francie's success. Francie told her some of what she remembered. Looking at Vicky, she realized she was the age "to watch carefully for those with the genetic load of mental fragility" (258). Later, Francie tried finding Shrina on social media, unsuccessfully. Then she called her old elementary school. The same administrator, Mrs. Washington, answered. They caught up, and she gave Francie Shrina's email.

In Chapter 58, Francie emailed Shrina, thanking her for her kindness years ago, and asking about her life now.

In Chapter 59, after reinstalling her lock, Francie realized she might just like the door locked "because then someone else needs to unlock it" (263).

In Chapter 60, after Francie found the roses, she had not remembered the man and the woman on the train. One year...
