Summary

After Matthew leaves in the chapter titled “Monday, July 27th,” Cass receives a phone call, but no one speaks on the other end. She thinks that someone lost their phone signal. Then she goes to the pay phone to call the police and let them know that Jane was alive at 11:30 and hangs up. Later that day, she hears a bulletin from the police requesting that the person who called earlier that day contact them. Cass worries that the killer will hear it and think that she knows something.
