Summary

In Chapter 16, “Forward,” Matt stops by Chris's house because he is “too gassed up to just go be alone” at home (240). The two walk up the street and Matt tells Chris about the garden and the kiss, which makes Chris tease Matt a little. As it grows dark, Chris leaves and Matt stops to talk to Mr. Ray. Mr. Ray says a young man from the neighborhood has been killed. His name is Andre and Matt later realizes he is the boy who tried to tease Love at the Cluck Bucket the day Matt took the job with Mr. Ray. Mr. Ray says Andre's mother wants to have the service at the funeral home the next day because she feared Andre's friends would not be comfortable at the church.
