Summary

Chapter 18 returns to Benny’s point of view. She is surprised to wake up in her recliner and see Nathan sitting on the couch. The night before, Benny showed Nathan the less intense parts of the history first, leaving the Bible until last. He said it was hard to look at the evidence that his family bought and sold people. He admitted he never understood why Robin was so interested in their history. Benny told him that they should learn from history, even if they do not like what it reveals.

Benny tells Nathan she wants to use the historical information they found in the house as research material for her students.
