Joan

Joan is the young woman who has put all the major events of the story into motion. She grew up in Domrémy-la-Pucelle, France, where she discovered in childhood that she had magical powers and a unique relationship to the earth. Her powers have caused her to hear an enchanting song wherever she goes, and to emit a blue light from her head. She summons a windstorm to punish a bully and causes a forest to spontaneously burst into flames. When war breaks out, Joan joins the fight against the raging dictator Jean de Men and her powers cause her to quickly move up the ranks in the resistance.
