Summary

The final section is “Sheep's Head, 2043. October 26 opens with Holly imagining a voice that says “He is on his way.” She doesn't know what it means and her thoughts are interrupted by her dog barking furiously. Holly and the dog, Zimba, arrive outside in time for the dog to kill a fox but Holly loses four of her chickens.

The world is chaotic with governments falling and basic technology failing. There are few goods to be had. Aoife and her husband died in a plane crash, leaving Holly to raise her granddaughter, Lorelei. She is also raising a young refugee named Rafiq. She lives in the house left to her by her Great-Aunt Eilish.

In October 27, Holly evaluates her current life. She says some people look at the “Endarkment,” which brought an end to limitless technology, electricity, and conveniences...
