Ocean/Sea

Several of the stories take place in settings near the ocean and contain symbolic imagery of the sea. In other stories, the sea holds importance in a character's memory or future fantasy. Le utilizes ocean scenery and description to symbolize chaos, destruction, and unfathomable loss. Occasionally, the ocean also symbolizes stability, steadfastness, and a connection to the natural world.

Rain

Rain recurs throughout the stories, appearing in every single story, sometimes at multiple points. The author uses rain as a way to indicate shifts in the story’s tone or moods of the characters, and specifically with rainstorms.
