Summary

In Chapter 16, Fatima wakes in the night. The cat, named Azalel, tells her the coast is clear. Fatima refuses to leave without Hassan. As they sneak through the camp, attempts convincing Fatima to abandon Hassan and become her servant. Fatima no longer wants to be owned. Azalel apologizes.

They find Hassan tied in a tent with small blades lodged under each his fingernails. Azalel helps extract the blades. They guide Hassan's weak body towards the ship. Hassan tells Fatima he also saw the speck in Luz's eye. When they tell Azalel about Qaf, she flees. Nearly at the boat, Luz and her men catch the friends. Luz demands the men execute Fatima and torture Hassan.

As a soldier is carrying Fatima away, Gwennec appears and attacks him, freeing her. She cuts Hassan loose and they run. From the boat they see Gwennec tied...
