Summary

In Chapter 7, as Geeta and Karem walked away from the house, Bada-Bhai chased after them. As they ran, Geeta admitted that she released the dogs in the yard. Karem explained that he wasn’t mad, Bada-Chai had already cut off his business and he wasn’t really a don. As they walked through the city, Karem asked about her errands and Geeta attempted to make excuses so she could purchase the rat poison alone. When she returned from Kohra, Farah was sitting on her front steps.

Farah was incensed that Geeta did not procure the poison, in Chapter 8. When the protagonist explained why she spent the day with Karem, she was sure to clarify that nothing untoward had transpired between them. Farah laughed at her attempts to clarify their friendship. She thought it obvious that “no chakkar [was] going on between” them...
