Chapter 8 Summary

In Chapter 8, Romany is preparing a toy for the yags, or fire creatures. He laments about the time, eight years ago, when Fikee became Dog Face Joe and lost his mind, as well as his magic. As he ponders his future, he suddenly realizes the men of Darrow came through a hole in time rather than just distance, and he begins to see the possibilities of such a useful tool. In the meantime, the ka of Byron is in public, buying drinks for people and spouting what the sorcerers told him to say. Doyle, now in Benner's body, meets with him and begins to ask questions that break the spell of his brainwashing.
