Chapter 2 Summary

Haven only remembers a few of Ashley's boyfriends beyond the dates and events they represent, and Sumner was the only one that mattered to her. Ashley met Sumner Lee at the beginning of tenth grade, and unlike the athletes she usually dated, he was skinny with black hair and blue eyes. Sumner was the type of person with whom one would want to spend the day, and he always stumbled into something interesting by accident. For example, when he took Ashley and Haven to the mall once, they ran into a commercial crew filming for a taste-test, and as the woman in charge urged the man to say it was the best cheese he had ever eaten, Sumner says the line. Though Ashley loved Sumner's craziness, it always embarrassed her. The crew filmed Sumner instead, and he became famous when the commercial aired...
