Chapters Twenty-Two through Twenty-Eight Summary

Rebecca's assistant tells police that Rebecca had had a conversation with David the previous evening, prompting police to conduct a search of David's house. They do so quickly, realizing that Hester would block the warrant if they give her time to find out about the search. In a trash can, they find a gun that has been recently fired. Outside, they find latex gloves. Stone is ecstatic, figuring that they are nearing the proof they need for their case. Carlson believes they are missing something important.
