Summary

Chapter 23 is a brief description of a text from Jessie’s father asking to talk. It has been eight days since their fight at breakfast. Jessie, still angry, refuses and says she has to work. Chapter 24 begins with Wood Valley Giving Day, during which the students help build a house instead of going to class. Gem bullies Jessie when she arrives with Theo, but Theo jumps to her defense. Liam approaches to ask what is going on, and Jessie leaves as Liam and Gem begin to argue. Jessie approaches Caleb, who then makes a date for coffee with her Thursday afternoon. At lunch, Jessie eats with Ethan, who apologizes for not standing up to Gem the day before.
