Chapter 11 Summary

The rest of the afternoon is quiet since everyone but Catherine and Tom are busy printing the week's edition of the paper. Tom learns that his car will not be ready that night has planned and asks Catherine for a ride home. Once home, Catherine spends the rest of the afternoon and part of the evening cleaning her house. When she is done mopping, Catherine steps out on the back porch to leave the mop. While there, Catherine hears a noise that sounds like footsteps. Catherine goes back into the house and then watches the yard from the window until she sees a bird in the yard. Satisfied that this is the source of the noise, Catherine chastises herself for being scared and turns back to her chores.
