Section 13: pages 269-286 Summary

In A Cozy Dinner, Mrs. Amberson is indifferent when Scarlett tells her about Donna's visit, insisting Donna does not have the nerve to cause trouble and refusing to talk to Donna because she needs to focus on the play. When Chip arrives with flowers, Scarlett invites him inside, but he sadly refuses. Seeing the flowers a few minutes later, Lola asks what Spencer did to Chip, and Spencer does not understand why she does not want Chip to stay away. During dinner, Mrs. Amberson drinks a frightening amount of whiskey while talking to Mr. and Mrs. Martin about the play. She mentions an amazing actor she once knew who is now very successful in Hollywood before excusing herself. Scarlett tells Spencer that she is going with him tomorrow because she feels something much bigger is going on now.
