Narrator

The narrator is a young woman in her twenties. She was created in a lab as a heartsick beast by the professor and his lover. She was never told that she was a heartsick beast. Instead, she grew up with just her mother in the Temple of the Antiquities where she lived amongst the flourishing beasts. When she was in elementary school, her mother died and she was shipped off to live with an aunt and a cousin she had never met. She graduated high school and enrolled in the university’s zoological department. She immediately impressed the professor with her immense knowledge of beasts, which she had learned from her mother. However, she disappointed the professor by dropping out and becoming a writer.

Her central project is a novel about beasts (the one the reader is presented with), though the narrator also writes a series of romance...
