Summary

In the first stanza, the speaker recounts the physical sensation of touching the cold water of the Pacific Ocean. She compares the aquatic environment to a planet, and comments that even the sky resembles water. An eagle larger than the speaker's shadow flies overhead.

The second stanza is composed of a single line. The speaker describes her reaction to the scene before her. She was "struck translucent," which she describes as a good look for her (5).

In Stanza 3, the speaker states that her hands were "slick with the water [she] was born next to" (6). This hour-long experience led her to feel "lived in, like a room" (7). In the following stanza, the speaker states her present desire, which is to simultaneously be untethered and tethered. This wish causes her to feel as though her skin singes her bedsheets.
