Summary and Analysis for 24-28 Summary

In Chapter 24, Jason and Lani are walking along the old railroad tracks. They pass a playground and realized that they vaguely remember playing at the playground together when they were young. Lani thinks fate decided that they were destined to be together long ago.

They decide to go out for ice cream at The Fountain. Lani is excited because she has been avoiding the place, not wanting to run into Jason. Still, she's nervous because she doesn't want school friends seeing them together. She's happy to discover that there is no-one there that they know.

They talk about their summer and jobs. Jason is more intense than ever before. He says lifeguarding and mentoring make him feel like he is protecting others, and he likes that. Upon questioning, Lani admits that she gave up swimming...
