Immediately after he disembarks from the plane after it lands in Los Angeles, Joe calls Barbara from a pay phone. He firmly believes he has been followed and wants to warn her. After they speak briefly, he retrieves his car and leaves the airport. In an effort to throw whoever is following him off his trail he decides to sell his car. He stops at Gem Fittich Auto Sales, pays for a new car with cash, and continues on his way to the coffee shop where he is to meet Demi.
