Summary

In “The Country Woman” (135), an unnamed woman moved from the city where she attended college back home to her rural hometown to take over the family farm. Completely alone on the farm, the woman invited an employee at the local grocery store, Shania, to move onto the property. Shania came with her young son and her boyfriend. The woman began a sexual affair with the man who installed WiFi on the farm. One night, they were interrupted while having sex by the arrival of the police. The police officer told the woman that they were called because Shania's son was choking. When they arrived, they discovered the boy was covered in bruises and wounds. Not only that, Shania actually had twins—she abused one and kept him locked in the house, while the other was brought out in public...
